MANDATE:
The Students of Colour Collective is collective of self-identified Black, Indigenous, People of Colour, at the University of Victoria (UVic). SOCC serves all racialized students and works to promote and support cultural diversity on campus and in the Greater Victoria Community. SOCC strives for its members to feel included, welcomed, protected, respected and appreciated on campus through the various aspects of its work.
PRIORITIES:
SOCC’s priorities are mental health, advocacy, decolonization, anti-racism, inclusion, and diversity creation work, and providing educative resources for individuals .
FUNDING
SOCC gets its funding from student fee levy at the University of Victoria, with full time students providing 70 cents/student & part time at 35 cents/student on a semesterly basis.
WHAT WE DO:
- Advocacy work for issues around race, racism, mental health, and decolonizing spaces.
- Educational and empowering events, workshops and initiatives.
- A friendly community space with a resource library, access to snacks, computer & printer use, and lounge space.
Our lounge space and resources primarily serve people of colour, but we have open community events throughout the semester.
